History
Geoinformativa is a digital journal featuring original publications that are the results of scientific research conducted in the Earth Sciences, especially geology. It is published by the National Geological Information Center of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology, Geological Service of Cuba (IGP/SGC). Since its inception, it has been widely accepted by readers and authors.
It began in 1980 in print and continued to be published quarterly until 1997, published by the then library of the Jorge Brödermann Institute of Geology and Paleontology. It resumed publication in 2006 with varying frequencies and was distributed via email and the internet to various institutions related to the geosciences. It is aimed at professionals and students of the Earth Sciences.
In 2010, it was registered in the National Registry of Serial Publications with ISSN 2222-6621 and RPNS 2277, and was also added to the IGP website. Initially, the journal was published monthly, then quarterly, and since 2013, it has been published semiannually. From 2016 to August 2018, it was not available online due to visibility issues on the IGP website, but its semiannual publication continued, circulating via email. From 2018 to the first half of 2023, it was available on the IGP/SGC website: https://igp.minem.cu/revista
Starting in the second half of 2023, the journal switched to the Open Journal System (OJS) format to facilitate national and international access via the internet and other social media. Issues published from 2018 to 2023 can be found on the website at: https://rgi.edicionescervantes.com
It publishes, in Spanish and English, original and review articles, short communications, and case studies related to the results of surveys and scientific research in Cuba and other countries. It includes a Geoscience News section with summaries of research projects presented by various geoscience entities to the Scientific Council of the IGP/SGC.
It is refereed by highly respected national and international judges in their various fields. Articles undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process. The journal offers free access to all its content without registration. It is based on the principle that "offering the public free access to research contributes to a greater exchange of knowledge."
Its mission is to provide a specialized scientific forum for disseminating research results related to the Geosciences, as well as for open and open discussion and knowledge exchange with professionals in the geological, geophysical, paleontological, mineralogical, cartographic, stratigraphic, environmental, and other disciplines of the Earth sciences.
Its vision is to be a national and international benchmark journal, with broad visibility, impact, and scientific innovation in the field of Geosciences.
